Dining & Shows
Good food in Thailand is found in fascinating places, from
seafood markets to floating restaurants to hawker stalls.
Wherever one travels in the country, aromas and attractive
food presentations are very appealing.
It is true that there are very spicy regional dishes - certain
sounthern Thai curries and northeastern dishes, not all Thai
food is hot and spicy. Generally, an authentic Thai meal will
include at least one very spicy dish, a few that are less
hot, and some that are flavoured with only garlic and herbs.
Usually, purely Siamese creations will take their place alongside
adapted Chinese and Indian dishes. Besides our typical Thai
dish, our desserts and sweets (khanom) also gives flavoured
attraction for anyone who taste them. The desserts and sweets
come in a bewildering variety - from light concoctions through
to custards, ice cream and cakes, and an entire category of
confections based upon egg yolks cooked in flower-scented
syrups. Bananas and coconuts grow in everywhere in Thailand,
and if they were to be removed from the list of ingredients
available to the khanom cook, the entire edifice of Thai dessert
cookery would come crashing down.
